Election night special report, part II
Update at 0116hrs: “John Whittaker Straw (known as Jack)” has held Blackburn, and it sounds like the “Get Jack out” campaign didn’t have any significant impact. Tom Happold has all the links you need.
Update 0129hrs: The Conservatives have got their second gain of the night with Peterborough. Looks like it could be a good night for Conservatives – what was a 10% loss for Labour and a 7% swing to the Tories.
Update 0134hrs: The Conservatives have taken Newbury from the LibDems, which is very telling. A 6% swing. Michael Howard doesn’t need to worry about his job. But apparently they should have been able to take Cheadle, too, and haven’t. Lewis Baston has a bit more on this.
