Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Blind Ballerina

In a neat coincidence after yesterday’s post on Alan Moore’s comics being turned into films, last night I heard him interviewed on Radio 4. The audio should still be there for a little bit – you can click on “Listen again”. It was very entertaining, particularly as this isn’t someone who isn’t primarily a meeja person.

Most memorable was his story of Blind Ballerina, a character from a British girls’ magazine:

[Authors Pat Mills and John Wagner] had grown cynical and possibly actually evil during this time. [...] John would just try to put her into increasingly worse situations. At the end of each episode you’d have her evil Uncle saying, “Yes, come with me. You’re going out on to the stage of the Albert Hall where you’re going to give your premier performance” and it’s the fast lane of the M1. And she’s sort of pirouetting and there’s trucks bearing down on her.

That quote lovingly copy-and-pasted from Jurieland’s item when the programme was first aired in January of this year. The entire transcript is also available. Recommended.
