Bush’s receding legacy
Mark Tran has a great little piece over at the Guardian News blog. Highlights are:
- 52% of Americans surveyed said the war in Iraq had not contributed to the long-term security of the US, the first time that opinion has constituted a majority;
- About 75% say number of casualties in Iraq is unacceptable;
- About 65% say the US military has got bogged down there;
- The US Army has been struggling to meet its recruitment targets.
Bush’s second term should have been about fortifying his legacy. It looks like he might be lucky to escape with his reputation intact.
