Germany without the photos

Germany was wonderful, with all the good stereotypes coming true: vast and spectacular Swabian landscapes, and lots of excellent food — most notably spaetzle and pfeffinger mushrooms. Our wonderful hosts, Maike and Dirk, were wonderful, and we walked miles and miles and miles each day. My German improved from zero to as-good-as-zero, so I’ve got an awful lot of work to do before our next trip.

Now I’m sure you’d like to see some pretty pictures, and I’d certainly like to show you some. Well, I’ve not uploaded them yet. But more depressing (for me) is that my camera’s suspicously low-cost Bytestor 1GB SD card started showing its fault — again. And so half way through our week away I couldn’t take any more photos, so I’ve only got half the number I’d like to have. Now we’ll see how good Amazon’s returns department is. I’m off to dissuade other people from buying the same brand.

Unbelievably (because of who he is, not the subject), someone is paying my boss to write a travel book on why Germany is a fantastic place to visit. So some time next year *everyone* will be talking about it, or so he says.

I’ve only ever been to Frankfurt though, and even Frankfurters don’t think that’s up to much.

My Kingston 512MB SD has been fine in the same camera, so it sounds like a bad SD card.

I’m sure. Kingston is a known brand (at least by me). I’ve found an inexpensive Viking 1GB card, but don’t know them. I need to seek out reviews ruthlessly. Or at least not half-heartedly.
