The authoritative biography of, er, …

Dave reads the Daily Mail so I don’t have to. Today he points to “the Daily Mail who are predictably furious that Cherie Blair doesn’t much like the Windsors“. Pumping up its story, the Mail says:

Cherie Blair denounced Princess Anne as a ‘bitch’ in an extraordinary feud with the Royal Family, an explosive book claims. [...] It is published today by Sidgwick & Jackson, an imprint of PanMacmillan, which is behind a series of authoritative political biographies.

The imprint’s parent may be behind such books, but what about Sidgwick & Jackson itself? When it describes itself the phrase “authoritative political biographies” doesn’t really spring to mind…

Sidgwick & Jackson was originally established in 1908 and was the publisher of poet Rupert Brooke and novelist E. M. Forster. [...] Now its high-profile subjects range from Bruce Forsyth to Ulrika Jonsson, the Krays to Michael Hutchence, Frank Sinatra to Rita Marley, Alec Guinness to Shane MacGowan and Benny Hill to Madonna.

Odd how the Daily Mail missed that.
