I must defend myself from any accusation that I am not a fully paid-up member of the Tom Is God group. I didn't say the BBC made it look easy by having a pot of money, I said the BBC had been successful because they worked bloody hard at it and chucked a lot of money at it. Unlike some other media organisations I could mention.

It seems pretty churlish to defend myself against a piece that's incredibly positive, but I'd just like to add that there's a difference between having missed something and that being forgiveable, and claiming that everything's moving so fast that there's no way you could have foreseen it! My issue with this rhetoric (and it is the rhetoric I object to, not the organisations) is that it's really weasel-words to avoid saying that they weren't paying attention. My message would be, that's okay! It's okay that you weren't paying attention! As long as you learn from it and move on, that's a good thing. No one's perfect! But take some bloody responsibility, already, eh?
