Welcame!

I have just bought what is nearly the cheapest, and almost certainly the nastiest, MP3 player in the English-speaking world.

When I switch it on it greets me with “Welcame”. “Oh,” you say, “these people obviously don’t understand English”. Well, that’s to over-estimate them. As the manual describes the product as an “MP3 PERSONBL STEREO” I’d suggest that these people have trouble recognising individual letters.

It might feel like it came out of a Christmas cracker, but what do I care? It plays MP3 files, at 512MB it holds four times more music than my old Rio 500 (and that’s after I spent $99 doubling its original memory), and at under twenty quid I’d say it’s a jolly good buy.

You forgot to mention the “Build-In FM Radio with Highly Sensible FM Radio”; whilst I can forgive the Build In/Built In error, I can only assume a Highly Sensible radio is one that is fixed to Radio 4.
Good job it doesn’t come with any Windows software - I hate to think what that might look like.

Actually it does come with Windows software — a USB driver — but thankfully I don’t need to install it.

So you have now had time to see if its any good. Where’s the full review - what’s the sound quality like, how long does the battery last, is it reliable, can you find the tracks you want?

I think spending more than a couple of paragraphs on something so comparatively cheap isn’t worth it. But here are some thoughts:

    - The sound quality is as good as any MP3 player, once I’d replaced the headphones — it’s digital, after all.
    - The user interface is fairly poor (it’s amazing how often I come across an interface where the designer clearly hasn’t put themselves in the situation of the user).
    - There’s a waggly button which switches left and right (fast forward and rewind, or next and previous) and which you push in to select. But it’s pretty waggly, which means I always fear nudging it forward or back slightly when I intend to press it in (though it happens rarely in practice).
    - Battery life seems okay so far, though I’ve not used it too much.
    - Volume goes high enough.
    - Annoyingly when you pause it, it doesn’t stop dead, but fades out over a couple of seconds.
    - It’s got a Lock switch, which is important.
    - It requires no software on a modern PC — just drag and drop.
    - It’s a bit chunkier than I’d like.
    - It’s light, which is good.
    - It doesn’t have a clip, which is a shame, but it’s got a thin loop thing so you can put it onto a keyring or a lanyard (love that word) if you trust the strength of that.
    - It’s got an auto-off facility which is sensible, but always surprises me.
    - It’s less than twenty quid. What do you want?

Any chance you can give me some instruction on how to use this thing? My friend bought one on ebay and we can’t even figure out how to use it. I can’t even change the language to english let alone download anything on it but its gotta be easier than I’m making it…any suggestions/help for me?

    Thank you!

Very roughly, because I don’t want to rewrite the entire instruction manual….

The Play button handle on, off, pause and play.

The switch at the top handles next/last track (flick left/right), rewind/fast forward (push and hold left/right), select (push in once) and main menu (push in and hold). Once in a menu the top switch allows you also to move to different options (flick left/right).

    Hope that helps.
