Interesting effect with a long exposure

Here’s a groovy camera effect I found by accident…

James Gilbert, giving it some

I’m not entirely sure what the most important part is, but it went like this: (1) go to dark place, such as the bar at the Theatre Royal, Stratford; (2) wait for someone like James Gilbert (above) to do their thing; (3) put camera on long exposure (a second or so) and pop up the flash; (4) take photo with flash; (5) while exposure still, er, exposing, move camera around.

I think the really important part is the long exposure and the movement. But the fact that it was a dark place and I used flash probably did a lot to ensure there is only one main subject and not just a lot of blur.

Anyway, it kept me amused all night. Much to my friends’ annoyance.

Who are those poor friends that you went with where you spent the entire evening messing around on your camera? I pity them. Must have been really irritating particularly as their pictures (albeit grim ones) no longer appear on this page.

Oh I wouldn’t worry about them. They’re the kinds of friend who, if you were to meet them, would cause you to spend the night occupied with your camera, too.
