Facebook annoyances, parts 1 and 2

It seems I exist in a very narrow band of people who don’t love Facebook, but yet aren’t actively suing them (or otherwise attacking them or attacking them or attacking them). No, I just have some annoyances.

Annoyance 1. I’m a member of four or five groups on Facebook. Each has its own page, where activity happens. But I never get to find out what’s going on there unless I choose to visit that page. Why I can’t I get a notification of what’s going on in my groups?

Annoyance 2. I do get notifications when something happens on my own page: someone writes on my wall, someone asks to be friend (no, really, that happens sometimes), someone sends me a message, and so on. But that notification obliges me to return to Facebook to see the details: “Alex has written on your wall. Click here to see what she says”, “Matt Wells has sent you message. Click here to see it.”

Why can’t these messages be sent straight to me? Why can’t I get more notifications? Why do I have to manually click round four or five pages just in case something interesting has happened?

When I was a lad living on 1Mb broadband a day, Mother would feed us raw RSS with our dose of daily of news and trivia, and we were glad of it. We learned about content aggregation the hard way. Kids today think they know it all, but if they only took time to listen to the older generation they’d get a lot more out of life.
