Big blogger: celebrity flapjack

The advert on the back of Metro today said this:

We know you love Big Brother. We know you love celebrities. We know you love hijack situations. Well get this…

And it went to announce the scheduling details of Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack.

All of which has prompted me to reveal the following four surprise facts about myself:

  1. I’ve never liked Big Brother.
  2. I’ve never cared much for celebrities, as a group.
  3. I’ve never much liked hijack situations. Not even that really big four-way one in September 2001, which, to give them their due, they really put a lot of effort into.
  4. I don’t like being addressed like that. I don’t like the assumptions made about what I “love”, and someone’s made a mistake if they think the phrase “well get this” will endear them to me and help retain my attention.

And no, I won’t be watching Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack. I suspect I’m not really their target audience. I suspect, also, that I won’t be missed.

The problem is that you picked up that fishwrap in the first place. Their target readers graze their knuckles when walking and happily lap up that kind of asinine drivel. You’re too intelligent to read it.

Keeping a paperback or two on me at all times saves me from having to read said comic and lose about thirty IQ points in the process. I recommend this.

One mistake I didn’t make, and one mistake I did make…

I didn’t make the mistake of picking up the paper; I was looking at the person reading it opposite me.

Which of course betrays the mistake I did make: if I had remembered to take a paperback with me then I wouldn’t have found myself having to read other people’s papers. That’ll be my lesson for next time.
